NATURE IS GOOD FOR KIDS
An increasing number of studies shows evidence that Nature is a treasure of resources for today’s kids, with outstanding effects on children’s development, allowing physical and emotional well-being, whole child development and social welfare.
…AND TO REPAIR ALTERED NATURE-CHILD CONNECTIONS
Today’s childhood happens indoors and inside the virtual worlds. Once outdoors, more and more children are uncomfortable and afraid of connecting with nature in the most simple ways: touching a wet leaf, handling a ladybird or just sitting on the grass. This is what we call eco-phobia: unreasonable fear of natural items and conditions.
At the same time, the urgency to protect our natural environment is omnipresent.
UN Sustainable Development Goals 4-7 and 13-3 call for the development of environmental education.
Theoretical teachings and anxiety-provoking images often develop stress responses in children that we witness on the outdoors. This is often called eco-anxiety. For many of them nature has become something fragile, distant and sad. A place that they are urged to protect, even though most of them don’t feel any bond with it anymore. This frequent and absurd situation generates frustration, denial and a deep feeling of helplessness.
We want to offer the children a healthy and balanced bond with their milieu, a deep, long-lasting connection so that they can feel and act in harmony with their nature. These children, adults of tomorrow, are the guardians of their nature.
NAYA NATURE WANTS TO GIVE NATURE BACK TO CHILDREN
Naya Nature Foundation’s pledge is to make children feel at home in nature, so they become well-adjusted and deeply happy in the world they live in. Making children feel at home in nature takes time. It takes time to be touched at heart. Regular exposure in nature and proper place-based pedagogy will help.
Arousing their resilience, curiosity and sense of wonder, leads to preserving their empathy and ability to spontaneously and wisely act to protect their nature.
Do you also support Naya Nature‘s vision for a brighter future, that all children will have the essential connection to nature they need, to grow happier and well-adjusted to the world?
